Echovalley
Today some tonal percussions found the way into an echovalley and met three sad solo strings. Later a computer voice reminded them of the utter importance of bass. Give it to me !

04. June 2008 at 21:39
Yeah…WE WANT MORE. Sounds good!
04. June 2008 at 21:56
That sounds great indeed!
04. June 2008 at 22:49
Great Idea. First it sounds a bit like Schiller
I like this sound
04. June 2008 at 23:05
Why does it always end at the best part? :-))))
how do you achieve that great groove? (for example your hihats, very typish Rolf groove)
04. June 2008 at 23:23
I have to agree,a wonderful piece of music!
As well as in the Aural Nostalgia-topic (I´ve also tried to make music with my old Commodore 64, but it´s a hard way to get something going :D), I recognise the REAL experimental way of making music that I have been missing in the latest RMB-releases
These sounds of Echovalley and Aural Nostalgia are definitely a step in the right direction

Very nice! Is this the Soniccouture Hang Drum stuff ?
05. June 2008 at 08:46
The Hang Drum samples (going into the echo delays) are from StormDrum2.
My drums + percussion are 80% samples played live with a keyboard with some finetuning in the “matrix” - or as it is now called in Logic: in the Piano Roll.
The other 20% are some Shaker or Percussion Loops i might add without altering them in detail.
The Violin and the two Violas are also played with a keyboard (East West Orchestra Gold XP) while using keyswitches (changing the articulation of the melody with the left hand). And i wanted them to sound a bit like sampled from a movie so i run the three tracks seperatly through analog gear distorting it a bit ( with slightly different settings left/right giving a cool, but still “natural” stereo effect)

Thanks! i didn’t know of any Hang Drum collection except for the one I mentioned above. I guess I’ll check check StormDrum2. Referring to what you wrote do you mean that u don’t prefer quantizing/snapping when editing drums?
05. June 2008 at 10:07
Quite simple: Stunning!
05. June 2008 at 10:48
agree.
05. June 2008 at 11:12
me too.
05. June 2008 at 12:46
Now we are 3 that agree
05. June 2008 at 13:20
i love it. realy yours!
05. June 2008 at 13:21
i love it!!!
realy!!!
05. June 2008 at 13:58
the beginning is nice! but the beat and the bassline (at 00:54) sounds tawdry, slow scooter style.
but you should work a bit on the changeover, its not so good
05. June 2008 at 18:26
Thx for the answer Rolf. I always wondered how you do that
Do you use any of Logics own swing patterns on your loops, or just as boka said, no quantize at all?
05. June 2008 at 19:09
creating downtempo tracks i often use no quantize at all… in uptempo tracks 90%-strength of 16th quantize with 53-58% swing is a good starting point… but always LISTEN and if some strike is not what you hear inside your mind -> edit or delete
05. June 2008 at 19:42
sounds great (but too short again)
funny to see that logic took the “piano roll” name from fruity loops.
rolf, have you ever checked fruity loops? starting from a beginner-shareware program, now it became an adult.
05. June 2008 at 20:01
thx, will try that
05. June 2008 at 21:51
I like the beginning. The rheinbahn-speech fits nice to the atmosphere. Don´t like the computer-voice. Sounds flat. Also think the changeover needs a work over. The PD-snippet has a great changeover.

What happens to all those great pieces on your harddisk that don’t reach local record dealers?
06. June 2008 at 08:48
very nice!
06. June 2008 at 11:03
I have been watching this blog from the beginning.
I love it.
Things to learn. Things to laugh. Things to listen.
I really like the music you created in the RMB age. I liked the first album. But definitely like the last 2 albums.
And with this sample you give us I really like just your own style. It is the sound we have been falling in love with years ago!
You asked us, some blogs before, what we would like to hear. And various styles come across. But I really would like to hear just what you want to create. I think that would be better. I think it is better to do what you like best.
I will be watching the blogs. I really like it!
Regards,
Michiel

Just one question: Why on earth is this one not to be taken seriously? Just don’t say you would rather turn the other stuff to a fullgrown track! This one is absolutely superior.
06. June 2008 at 14:23
thank you… not seriously meant were the “berliner allee” sample and the text the computer voice speaks and as with all the snippet i post here - these are NOT in any way finished pieces of music - not even pre-versions… the idea was to show the process, not the finished work…
06. June 2008 at 19:10
zzZZZ
06. June 2008 at 20:54
?
06. June 2008 at 21:04
i meant that this snippet is tiresome.
07. June 2008 at 09:14
just make sure you put that track on the album.
15. June 2008 at 00:20
Cooler Sound, mehr von dem letzten Teil. Guter Beat, gute Melodie. Weiter so!
21. June 2008 at 12:21

Sweet sounds… Just wanted to post to say that Widescreen remains my single favorite album - ever. I like to think of it as the soundtrack to my life.
