ALL IN (my story)
Creativity is by definition rather the breaking of than a set of rules. But there are rules with creative work that stood the test of time and are really making the creative process easier and more results oriented.
One fundamental rule in producing (and mixing) music is: Find the most important element of the song and emphasize it!
Many mixing and songwriting tricks are kind of “subtractive” to fulfil this rule. A great melody doesnt need dozens of notes. See if you still can cut down your songtext or your arrangement. Dont play the stuff that isnt helping the main element (or mix it really soft). Try to mute clashing instruments. Prefer subtractive EQ etc… A lot of producing and mixing is “taking away”.
And i had this song with too many elements. Several minutes of multiple tracks of edited synthetic percussion, a piano melody, string hits, an acoustic drumloop and two electronic drumloops, sampled string harmonies, a lot of sound effects, re-amped synths, loops and strings… and moreover i found that fat bassline… normally i had to trash half of it and split the rest between three songs… but i wondered WHAT WOULD IT SOUND LIKE to put it ALL IN…
It was a total mess 
For example there really are THREE drumloops playing at the same time… here is a snippet that plays them one after the other and then together with another bassdrum and a ride cymbal like in the final song…

That was fun and i went on producing in such a “maximal” style… the number of elements is exceeding the number of elements in three normal electronic songs by far, but i liked it somehow… mixing wasnt easy, because conceptionally i didnt want to mix parts too soft… otherwise it would count as ALL IN 
Here are the elements of one part at the end of the song being played briefly one after the other - in the song they all play simultaniously of course…

So it began as an experiment to break a firm rule of music production for the sake of creativity, but finally it became one of my personal favourite 5 of THIRTEEN STORIES.

‘All in’ is a fantastic track apart from the imho deterrent first ~45 seconds that might cause people to skip early. This is so far the only one of your tracks that I completely disliked at first and just love now.
To me that is a very extreme example of ‘good songs require time also for the listener’.

Nice to see your sequencer
Many elements, and it still sounds not to much.
That is what I once thought, good production - simple melodies are so well established, that the track stays interesting until the end
But for most people, this is a difficult track
I do not know whether I like this track just because I “make music self”
and know how much work it is.
or
I think it is something else what you do not tell - this track rocks!
I have the feeling (generally on this album) that electronic music get alive, how it is with live instruments.

Viele Elemente, und es hört sich trotzdem nicht überladen an.
Das ist was ich mal meinte gute Produktion - Melodien sind simpel aber so gut eingesetzt das der Track interessant bleibt bis zum Ende
Aber den meisten Menschen ist das ein eher schwerer Track
Ich weiß selbst nicht ob ich diesen Track nur mag , weil ich selbst “Musik mache”
Und weiß wie viel Arbeit da drin steckt. ?
Ich glaube aber, es ist was ganz anderes ,was du gar nicht erzählt hast - dieser Track rockt!
Ich habe das Gefühl,(auch allgemein bei diesem Album) dass elektronische Musik lebendig wird, wie es bei Live Instrumenten gibt.
Fühlt es jemand noch???

Fand den Track anfangs sehr schwere Kost, vor allem wegen des knarzenden Basses. Aber wie so oft muss man den Track einfach oft genug hören, um ihn schätzen zu lernen. Gibt genug glattgebügelte elektronische Musik wo der Filter jede “Ungereimtheit” wegschluckt.
Dieser Song hat Charakter durch diese Ecken und Kanten.

So sehe ich das auch. All-In ist keiner meiner Favs auf dem Album, dennoch finde ich den Song interessant, ich glaube Hardwarekiller hat soeben rausgefunden, warum
Ich fand den Track anfangs nicht so toll, weils mir zu hmm.. “brachial” war. Der Song ist sehr schwer und stark, so ist er zwar anfangs anstrengend, aber verleiht ihm eine sehr interessante Note.
Interessant fand ich den Screenshot aus deinem Musik-Programm. Ich kenne aus eigener Benutzung zwar nur Musik Maker und Cubase, jedoch sehe ich, dass das für nur einen Song VERDAMMT VIEL ist.
Mein erster Gedanke war sprichwörtlich “WTF”. Der Track hört sich ungewöhnlich an, das Bild wird wohl die Erklärung sein.
Dennoch ist es nicht so, dass sich der Track übermäßig zugeschissen mit sonst was anhört.
Rolf überrascht mich immer wieder mit seinen experimentellem und auch gewagten Projekten, dass er es dann seltsamerweise auch noch gut hinbekommt, find ich immer wieder erstaunlich.
Kann sein, dass ess sich geschleimt anhört, ich finds jedoch wirklich endgenial.
Mach weiter so Rolf, nur durch sowas kann die elektronische Musik und auch du als Künsler wachsen.

this song just rocks! as others said before, I can imagine it can be a hard listen for some people. I wish I could hear this song on big speakers in a club, it would make an awesome dance. bass!
btw. I don’t make music (at least not yet ;)), and I still like it a lot.
